I'm sure there are alot of great comics out there right now I'm not reading just because I don't know about them. Well I suppose this is a good place to let you know about what I'm reading that I think you should be reading that you may have no clue about.
First up: Kick-Ass by Mark Millar and John Romita JR.
Only one issue has been released so far, but this is a series everyone needs to keep their eye on. The creative team is enough to merit checking it out.
I have only one warning about it though: adult language. The main characters are high school kids and they talk like high school kids. This isn't your dad's Peter Parker. That being said, the language doesn't detract one bit from the story. It's never used gratuitously. In fact it makes so much sense that it draws you in that much more. It feels very natural. I mean come on, all (or most) of us had pretty foul mouths back in the school days. And it's Mark Millar!! He's not just gonna put anything in a book to give it "street cred" or whatever.
Ok, now that that's out of the way let me really explain why this book is so cool.
It's set in a real world atmosphere.
A kid can't understand why no one has ever actually tried to be a superhero before given all the comic books and super hero movies.
That same kid decides he will.
K that's the BARE BONES of the book. And it was on purpose cuz I don't wanna spoil anything. It's so real world the kids in the book are even debating the fact Peter Parker had genetic Web Slingers instead of invented ones in the Spider-man movies.
Better way to put it: You wake up tomorrow and decide you are gonna be a superhero. No powers. Just decide you are going to do it. How would you go about it. Oh and you are a Highschool student...
Check it out you won't be dissapointed I hope.
And let me know what you think.
