Best comic you aren't reading? ::Adult Language::

I'm sure there are alot of great comics out there right now I'm not reading just because I don't know about them. Well I suppose this is a good place to let you know about what I'm reading that I think you should be reading that you may have no clue about.

First up: Kick-Ass by Mark Millar and John Romita JR.

Only one issue has been released so far, but this is a series everyone needs to keep their eye on. The creative team is enough to merit checking it out.

I have only one warning about it though: adult language. The main characters are high school kids and they talk like high school kids. This isn't your dad's Peter Parker. That being said, the language doesn't detract one bit from the story. It's never used gratuitously. In fact it makes so much sense that it draws you in that much more. It feels very natural. I mean come on, all (or most) of us had pretty foul mouths back in the school days. And it's Mark Millar!! He's not just gonna put anything in a book to give it "street cred" or whatever.

Ok, now that that's out of the way let me really explain why this book is so cool.

It's set in a real world atmosphere.

A kid can't understand why no one has ever actually tried to be a superhero before given all the comic books and super hero movies.

That same kid decides he will.

K that's the BARE BONES of the book. And it was on purpose cuz I don't wanna spoil anything. It's so real world the kids in the book are even debating the fact Peter Parker had genetic Web Slingers instead of invented ones in the Spider-man movies.

Better way to put it: You wake up tomorrow and decide you are gonna be a superhero. No powers. Just decide you are going to do it. How would you go about it. Oh and you are a Highschool student...

Check it out you won't be dissapointed I hope.

And let me know what you think.

You know, when you first mentioned this, I thought, hmmmmm. Not another "Ultimate" title. I got tired of seeing little weenie boys going out and fighting crime, and having to be home by bedtime. I realize the Ultimate line was really popular, just not my cup 'o joe, so to speak :)

Anyway, I read it, and this title looks pretty good so far. Sometimes you can't tell by the first issue, but I think it has some good potential. One reason I say this, of course, is because Millar did such a good job on Civil War, and JRJR does such a great job on anything. I loved the Eternals miniseries. Gaiman has always been one of my favorites, and I think he did a bang up job on Eternals.

I'm curious, so I believe I'll check out the next few issues to see what happens. He seemed to act like there is a lot about to happen, from the sounds of it in the editorial. So, I have to say my interest is piqued now. Gotta read more...

Ya know I agree with you. When I first heard about it, other than the creative team, I thought " who cares we've seen all this before? " but luckily one of my friends talked me into reading it. Now granted there has only been one issue so it still COULD turn out to suck overall but I just don't think it will.

Just like you, the editorial said more to me than the actual issue did lol. That got me fired up for the future cuz there's so much passion there. So hopefully we are in for a real treat. If nothing else, if they can produce a solid mini-series, that's good enough for me.
